How Many Bricks/Blocks Do I Need?
Our brick calculator helps you work out how many bricks you need. Minimise waste by calculating the number of bricks required for projects such as extensions, exterior walls, and more.
Simply enter wall size and choose brick dimensions to get your estimates.
Unsure about your brick sizes? Bricks and blocks tend to be available in standard sizes, making it much easier for consistency. Your average house brick size is 215mm x 65 mm x 102.5mm (length x height x width), which applies to most facing bricks. Blocks are often larger than bricks; standard concrete block and breeze block dimensions are usually 440mm x 215mm x 100mm (length x height x width). Although, blocks tend to be more varied depending on what you intend to use them for. It’s a good idea to get the measuring tape out to double-check your brick and block sizes to get an accurate estimate of brick quantities.
If you'd like to know how many bricks per m2 of wall, just enter 1.0 metres into both boxes and the brick calculator will give you the number you need. The Standard Size Calculator is based on standard block dimensions of 440mm x 215mm x 100mm with a 10mm mortar joint, or a standard house brick size of 215mm x 65mm x 102.5mm.
We know that not all bricks, breeze block and concrete block dimensions are standard, and you might not want to use a 10mm joint between blocks. If you select "Custom Size" you can enter your own brick dimensions in height and length (width does not affect how many bricks per m2 you need) and a custom mortar joint above. Again, just add the size of your wall for a total estimate of bricks and blocks you'll need, or enter 1.0 metres into both height and length for the number of bricks per m2.
